Frequently Asked Questions

What does ZTZ Services do?

ZTZ designs and supports online transformer and substation monitoring systems that detect problems early and help prevent costly failures. Core offerings include bushing monitoring (ZVCM-1001), CCVT monitoring (CCVT MAX), partial-discharge–enabled bushing monitoring (TRANSMAX 2000), and Hydrocal online DGA systems (exclusive North America distributor).

  • After abnormal test results or incidents on a unit
  • On critical/aging fleet assets where an outage is high-impact
  • When you need continuous visibility vs. periodic offline tests
ZTZ emphasizes active monitoring (bushing + DGA + CCVT) with engineering review to replace calendar-based maintenance.
  • Bushing insulation issues via leakage current, power factor, and capacitance trends (ZVCM-1001).
  • CCVT degradation/maloperations via real-time phasor analysis (CCVT MAX).
  • Transformer insulation breakdown & arcing via multi-gas DGA (Hydrocal).
  • Partial discharge (PD) activity in the 2–20 MHz band (TRANSMAX 2000).

ZVCM-1001 is a robust, permanently installed bushing monitor (up to six bushings/points) using multiple test methods (Sum-of-Three, Adjacent Phase, Phase Comparison, patented High-to-Low). TRANSMAX 2000 builds on bushing monitoring and adds partial discharge (PD) detection and optional inputs (load current, GIC, temperatures, humidity).

It audits phasor voltage outputs in real time, catching subtle dielectric/connection issues that simple voltage monitors miss; one unit can monitor up to four three-phase CCVT groups and integrates with SCADA and ZTZ TraMoS software.

Yes. Supported interfaces include DNP3 and Modbus (serial/TCP). TRANSMAX 2000 also cites IEC 61850 support.  We also have an API for custom integrations.

Depending on model, up to 9 gases (e.g., H₂, CO, C₂H₂, C₂H₄, CH₄, C₂H₆, C₃H₈, CO₂, O₂) plus moisture. Hydrocal units are carrier-gas-free, low-maintenance, and install via a single oil valve without interrupting service.

The DGA install through the oil drain valve on in-service transformers and provides all-in-one monitoring (DGA, moisture, heat, vibration, PD). Our mobile unit is designed to be moved/re-used across units.  Bushing monitoring can be typically installed in a <4 hour outage (typical for solar installations is at night).

All devices use outbound-only remote communications and requires on-site physical access for local access.

ZVCM highlights >95% incipient fault detection with a low false-positive rate, and reports ~66% reduction in site visits in targeted maintenance work.

(Actual results vary by fleet and practices.)

Installation, on-site training, data analysis, and 24/7/365 technical support. ZTZ also hosts a no-cost, two-day annual users’ meeting in Miami for hands-on training and peer presentations.

Yes. ZTZ supports and repairs Hydrocal products in the U.S. and can overnight replacement units to minimize downtime in rare service events.

Hardware is hand-built in the U.S. and covered by a lifetime warranty on key systems like TRANSMAX; software for analysis/management is included. (See individual product pages for specifics.)

  • ZVCM-1001: leakage current 0–140 mA (±1.5%), PF resolution 0.01% (±0.045%), capacitance 100–5000 pF (±1%); SCADA via DNP3/Modbus; multiple alarm relays.
  • CCVT MAX: rack-mount 3U; up to four 3-phase CCVT groups; dry-contact alarms; USB/Ethernet; SCADA via RS-485 (Modbus RTU/DNP3) or Ethernet (Modbus TCP/DNP over Ethernet).

ZTZ combines continuous bushing data, DGA trends, and phasor-based CCVT analysis, with engineer review to distinguish normal aging from developing faults and provide action plans. Included TraMos software provides a unified picture of transformer health. All collected data is readily available for external system analysis and AI tools.

Yes—expert analysis of monitoring data, custom system design, and service contracts, in addition to installation and training.

Solutions apply across generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial settings;  Most installations are above 33kV
